The race to knit 500 Harrogate Angels!

We know that Christmas can be a lonely time for many people, but it’s not just Christmas when people are affected by loneliness. This is why we’re starting a Knit and Natter group at the Harrogate Hub, every Monday and Wednesday afternoon (2-4pm).

Even if you can’t knit, it’s a chance to socialise and join in with our Christmas Angels project. There’ll be opportunities to create labels and write Christmas messages or just have a cup of tea and a chat.

Every year, Harrogate has a Christmas shop window competition and this year we’re taking part in the charity category.

We’re inviting knitters to create these little angels for our window display. The window displays will be judged on the 13th November, so the race is on to knit as many angels as possible!

Once our display has been judged, our angels will be given to visitors. And any angels that don’t fit in our window will make their way onto the streets of Harrogate to be taken home by anyone who finds them. Each angel will have a Christmas message tied around its neck – as well as some information about the Hub.

Why are we starting this project?

By running Knit and Natter sessions, we hope to build on our vision to create a community where everyone is welcome and has a safe space to chat and socialise.

We also hope that by giving away our angels, we will spread the message about the Hub. We want everyone to know there’s somewhere to turn when they’re feeling alone, isolated, or in need of some kind of support. We hope our little angels with their Christmas messages will bring encouragement, hope, and a smile to people’s faces.
